Shingle and Slate Roofer

Preserve History One Slate at a Time

The Tradesmen Group LLC (TTG) is hiring experienced Slate Roofers to join our restoration crews working on historic buildings across the region. Candidates must have at least 2 years of hands-on experience installing natural slate roofing systems, including copper and metal flashings. This is a long-term opportunity to contribute to meaningful projects that preserve architectural heritage.

Our team self-performs a wide range of trades including masonry, roofing, architectural metals, carpentry, and painting. With regional offices across the Midwest and Southeast, TTG employees live and work in the communities they help restore.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Remove existing roofing systems and components according to project specifications
• Install temporary dry-in systems to maintain weather protection
• Apply underlayment and layout new or salvaged slate per plans/specs
• Install flashing and counter flashing systems
• Replace broken or damaged slate tiles
• Perform daily job site cleanup with the roofing crew
• Set up scaffolding and rigging for safe roof access
• Maintain safety protocols and fall protection standards

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• Minimum 2 years of experience in slate roofing and roof demolition
• Familiarity with temporary dry-in procedures and underlayment installation
• Ability to work independently and stay focused without direct supervision
• Knowledge of roofing tools, construction equipment, basic sheet metal, and carpentry
• OSHA 10 certification (must be completed prior to job start)
• Must be eligible to pass a federal background check for security clearance
